Lara Čadež, a graduate of the Communication Design degree program at Hochschule RheinMain (HSRM), has been awarded the young talent prize at the Hessen Design Competition for her final thesis. Together with three other talented designers, Čadež received a certificate and a trophy during the award ceremony last weekend at the Designhaus in the Darmstadt Artists‘ Colony.

Under the supervision of Prof. Betty Schimmelpfennig and Prof. Jörg Waldschütz, Čadež developed a corporate identity for a film festival, a project that convinced the Hessen Design jury. “The Diaspora Film Festival is a fictitious film festival that highlights the diverse realities of diaspoara life in German-speaking countries,” explains the young designer. “My goal was to incorporate key issues of diaspora life in the design, while focussing on a clear and accessible design.” The logo changes depending on the communication format to highlight the idea of deconstruction and reforming, Čadež continues.

The Hessen Design Award comes with a prize money of €2,000 and an extensive mentoring program inlcuding intensive coaching from design experts. An exhibition of the award winners and nominees, accompanied by eight work and project concepts from the jury and the mentoring program, will be on view at the Designhaus in Darmstadt on October 26 and 27, 2024, from 11 am to 4 pm.
