The Media Management program at Hochschule RheinMain (HSRM – RheinMain University of Applied Sciences) celebrated its sixth week-long summer school on intercultural branding, marketing communication and international careers. Sixteen students from partner universities in the U.S. and South Africa shared an eventful week with media management students from Wiesbaden. The summer school included trips to Heidelberg and Mainz and sightseeing in Wiesbaden. The program also featured several expert talks: “Top 10 skills for the international labor market” by Natalia Plotnikov (University of Kansas, USA), “A billion-dollar-box-office-film-club or how to make money in the dark room” by Prof. Dr. Dr. Alexander Moutchnik (HSRM), “How to use LinkedIn” by Chaim Shapiro (Touro University, New York, USA), “Design Thinking for Careers” by Frank Oprandy (Auburn University, Alabama, USA) and “Origin and Current Forms of Color Dramaturgy in Fiction Film” by Prof. Dr. Andrea Gschwentner (HSRM).

Final advertising campaign pitches

On Friday, the students gave their final advertising pitches. During the week, the teams had worked on developing a marketing communications concept for the Wiesbaden-based company Seibert Media and their website programmieren.de, which targets children and young people interested in programming courses. The goal was to develop a successful marketing strategy that is target group-oriented and realistic. The first team presented their concept with the slogan “tech is <easy> – code is hard”, the second team proposed an advertising campaign with the slogan “want something to flex, get in tech”, and the third team advertised with “Every Character Counts”. They detailed their means for advertising and defining target groups to promote the programming course. Both Thorsten Groß from Seibert Media and the organization team, consisting of Prof. Dr. Christoph Kochhan, Professor of Media Marketing, study program advisor Ayten Gülçehre-Diefenbach and Gudrun Bolduan from the Competence & Career Center, were pleased with the results shown.

Jemina (22) from the Vega School in Johannesburg expressed: “I felt very welcome in Wiesbaden. I had a great time here with great people and visited beautiful cities.” Clint (26) from Auburn University in the U.S. was also enthusiastic: “I got to see a lot and working in an international team was great.”
