Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Gehrig
In 2012, I was appointed to the professorship in the research area "Mathematical Methods in Continuum Mechanics" in the degree programme "Applied Mathematics". My interests and focus in research and teaching lie in the mathematical description and modelling of physical-technical structures and dynamic systems with the aim of analysing relationships, enabling predictions and supporting optimisation and control. Both equation-based methods (e.g. using differential equation systems to describe physical relationships) and data-based methods (e.g. modelling dynamic systems using measured signals, machine learning methods) are used.
Current research activities include analysing the dynamics and stability of energy and resource networks, model-reducing, data-driven methods for predicting temporal progressions and degradation phenomena, for example in fuel cells, model-predictive controls for the dynamic control of output variables and methods for identifying critical model parameters.
