Prof. Dr. Heinz Werntges
After studying physics and early work with microprocessor hardware and software, I completed my doctorate at the University of Düsseldorf with a thesis on neural networks in robotics. In the following 10 years, I modelled and automated business processes in the consumer goods industry. Since 2003, as Professor of Applied Computer Science at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, I have dedicated myself to the automation of processes at various levels – from measurement data acquisition (IoT) to smart homes, smart grids, business processes and the digitalisation of administration.
When it comes to electromobility, I am fascinated by the new opportunities that are opening up: if the many millions of batteries of parked electric vehicles can be tapped into in a grid-friendly way, costs for grid expansion can be saved, new business models can be developed and public acceptance of the energy transition can be increased. We are therefore working on concepts such as "vehicle-to-home" and "vehicle-to-grid", especially on issues relating to standardisation and automation.
