Prof. Dr. Manfred Loidold

As Professor of Geoinformatics and lorry fan with a correspondingly high level of industry expertise and acceptance, my research focuses primarily on the possibilities of CO2 reduction in road freight transport, taking into account customer expectations, profitability and other framework conditions (e-truck supply and infrastructure, political requirements and subsidies, etc.).

Since geodata is used and processed (almost) everywhere – just ask your mobile phone – I have a strong interdisciplinary focus and am particularly involved in teaching – from monument protection (architectural heritage), to classic civil engineering, to mobility and environmental management topics that are currently in high demand.

Between 2015 and 2017, I completed a postgraduate degree in "Data Science" on the topics of AI/machine learning, noSQL databases, linked data and big data and was subsequently able to apply this knowledge in a number of projects, including the BMVI-funded ITP project to forecast the availability of truck parking spaces on motorways, which is still an unsolved, sometimes fatal problem on many German motorways.
