Application and before the exchange

International students and (teaching) staff from the partner universities of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at RheinMain University are eligible to participate. In the section cooperation and partnerships you find the list sorted by countries and faculties.

You must apply at your home university. Please consult your coordinator of international affairs at the faculty or the International Office at your university for information about the specific application requirements.

After your nomination

Yes. However, students should make sure that they can follow the course content. The HSRM generally requires German or English language proficiency at least at the level of B1, based on the Common European Reference Frame (CEFR). A deeper knowledge of German is recommended because most of the courses are given in German (only a few are given in English).

The full course porgram is available at the student system: HSRM Compass.

The Language Center offers language courses at all levels so that individual exchange students can improve their German language skills by about one CEFR level.

All students enroll in courses and exams through the student system: HSRM Compass.To do so, you will need the user name and password of your “HDS Account”. You will receive your account data after your official nomination. If you need help with course registration, you can ask international-sw[at]hs-rm.de.

You, your coordinator at your home university, and a representative of our Faculty of Applied Social Sciences at HSRM sign your agreement. The latter signs the section "Responsible person at the Receiving institution“. To direct your OLA to the correct person, please fill in the name of one of the coordinators of international affairs (Internationalisierungsbeauftragte) and the following email address in your OLA: international-sw[at]hs-rm.de. You can find the names of the coordinators of international affairs in the section “Contacts”.

After your arrival

You can always write an email to international-sw[at]hs-rm.de. We offer counseling in German and English. In addition, the International Office of the university provides you with all necessary information for your first steps at the university.

For contact to student fellows, the university organizes a Buddy program where you can get in touch with a student colleague who can support you. Detailed information is available at Buddy Program.

In addition, the AStA Student Union and the Faculty Student Committee of Applied Social Sciences take care of the interests of RheinMain students. You can find more information on their website AstA and Faculty Student Comittee of Applied Social Sciences.

RheinMain University of Applied Sciences has several campuses across the city of Wiesbaden. Our Faculty of Applied Social Sciences is located at Kurt-Schumacher-Ring 18, 65197 Wiesbaden. This location hosts most of the faculty's courses and admin staff offices.

In this section, you can find a map and various descriptions of how to get to our campus: Maps and directions.

At the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences there are different examination forms:
Oral exams, professional conversations (Fachgespräch), written tests (Klausuren or E-Klausuren), term papers, oral presentations, practical or artistic activities, online assessments, language tests, portfolios, or short assessments.

Examinations can be graded or ungraded depending on the module to which a course belongs. Lecturers usually specify their assessment conditions at the beginning of each course. In case you need a grade for a course that is usually ungraded, ask your individual lecturer about the possibilities at the beginning of the course.

Students are graded on a scale from 1,0 to 4,0, where 1,0 is the best and 4,0 the minimum required grade to pass a course. An insufficient examination performance is graded with the grade 5,0. The grades correspond as following:

Grade

Subdivisions

Description

1 = sehr gut (very good)

1,0

1,3

outstanding achievement

2 = gut (good)

1,7

2,0

2,3

an achievement which lies substantially above average requirements

3 = befriedigend (satisfactory)

2,7

3,0

3,3

an achievement which corresponds to average requirements

4 = ausreichend (sufficient)

3,7

4,0

an achievement which barely meets the requirements

5 = nicht ausreichend (insufficient/fail)

5,0

an achievement which does not meet the requirements

Examinations are held during the examination period at the end of each semester. Oral exams usually take place within two weeks after the last lecture has taken place. For written exams, there is a final examination deadline to hand in your term paper. You find the relevant dates under this link in the section Dates and deadlines of the study program B.A. Social Work.

Usually, students receive their grades within six to eight weeks of the examination date. In case you need your grades earlier, ask your lecturers for an individual solution.

Before returning home

Before you travel back to your home university, you will need two documents: the transcript of records and the confirmation of stay.

By the end of the semester, after you have completed the courses and examinations, your academic performance and grades will be registered in the electronic system of the Examination Office and you will be given a transcript of records in German. Together with this transcript of records the Faculty also provides a “Transcript Supplement” in English, which explains the terminology and structure of the transcript to make it easy to understand.

If you want to stay for another semester you need to approach your coordinator for international affairs at your home university and ask for the possibilities and corresponding procedures to extend your stay.
