What is it?
The cooperative degree program Mechatronics (KIS-ME - formerly KIS Systems Engineering) offers a general, interdisciplinary university education in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and information technology. Students acquire an understanding of the systemic interdependencies of these subjects with a strong focus on practical implementation.
The high degree of practical orientation is characterized by the vocational training in a partner company which students undergo during their studies. The elective modules in the degree program correspond to the relevant areas of vocational training in the fields of mechanical engineering, mechatronics or electrical engineering.
Students benefit from the financial security provided by the remuneration paid during the vocational training and the subsequent part-time work in the partner company during the degree program. During the semester break, students work full-time in the partner company with the exception of their normal entitlement to leave.
The degree program is reserved for prospective students who have entered into a training contract with a partner company cooperating with the university. Students who have already completed technical vocational training can study while working at a partner company.
What can I do with it?
With the challenges of globalization and Industry 4.0, engineers’ professional field is changing continuously and at an ever-faster rate. In addition to the continuing need for specific specialist knowledge, a holistic understanding of development and production processes (system thinking) is becoming increasingly important, not only in technical terms, but also from a business, methodological, social and cultural point of view. Graduates of the degree program have a wide range of professional opportunities in all technically oriented sectors and areas of business:
- as planning and project engineers in plant, electrical and mechanical engineering for mechatronic systems, in automotive engineering and in the consumer goods industry,
- in project planning, development, production, quality assurance, controlling and sales,
- in systems engineering, automation, process engineering, logistics.
