Ukraine Night on November 14
TOGETHER FOR UKRAINE
Three exhibitons ♦ A talk on the current situation ♦ Music ♦ Theater
November 14, 4 p.m., Hochschule RheinMain, Building A,
Kurt-Schumacher Ring 19, Wiesbaden
We would like to invite you to a special evening bringing to light Ukrainian culture, creativity and resilience! After a talk by guest researcher Galyna Nesterenko on Ukrainian history and its current situation, you will have the chance to explore three impressive exhibitions:
“through” – Exhibition and theater
“To avoid feeling my own pain, I decided to feel the pain of my brothers and sisters, to feel it through and through...”
The theater exhibition includes about 40 pieces by children and adults from an art therapy cycle in various cities and regions of Ukraine. The artwork will be presented in a play that represents the emotions of an entire country.
“Unissued Diplomas” – Exhibition
Portraits of young people describing themselves on social media, their dreams and plans and how it was all suddenly destroyed by a brutal war.
“Home is...”– Exhibition
“...a place where you feel safe and secure, a memory of something that was lost or the search for a place where you feel you belong”. For many international students, their home country is out of reach. A group of students met several times to express their very different thoughts and feelings about home on canvas through art. In the process, they discovered darker, more painful sides to the concept and processed experiences that remain in their hearts despite everything.
The night of support will also include culinary specialties from Ukraine, music by the trio Menton and inspiring conversations. The evening is organized by Ukrainian and other international students to reflect, share and build solidarity. The students are supported by HSRM's International Office and the DiVine project, the student union AStA and the student representatives from the Faculty of Engineering. The night will also highlight the importance of humanitarian aid work and collect donations.
Please join us in this special occasion to send a message of support! We look forward to seeing you!
A night in Oman – Students present their home country
The group of 10 students (5 women and 5 men) from Oman is the fifth largest group of foreign students at HSRM's Faculty of Engineering, and the number is growing. On Thursday, 23 May 2024, the students from Oman organized a cultural night about their home country that was attended by many prospective Osman students from Marburg, Leipzig and Gießen who have already found an apartment in Rüsselsheim and will start their studies here in winter semester. The men appeared in long white robes and headdresses, and the women in colorful, richly decorated dresses.
The Omani Student Association Germany (OSAG), which has over 100 members nationwide and whose leadership (president, vice-president, treasurer and spokesperson for the Rhine-Main area) is studying at the Faculty of Engineering, hosted a cultural event. Five large-format posters presented the country‘s history, clothing, food, urban development and geographical features.
The night also included a lecture on the status of women in the sultanate. Women in Oman hold ministerial posts, are encouraged to start their own businesses and, as the large number of attendees showed, are sent to study in Germany – especially in engineering programs. Guests got the chance to try some of Oman's famous coffee, date specialties and an rich buffet of 70 dishes that were emptied quickly.
