Prof. Dr. David was appointed Professor of Theoretical Computer Science at the Faculty of Design Computer Science Media of Hochschule RheinMain (HSRM) on July 01, 2024. Professor Sabel began his academic career at the Goethe University Frankfurt, where he completed a degree in computer science with a minor in business administration. He earned his doctorate in 2008. In 2013, he completed his habilitation in computer science on “Correctness of programs and programming languages – methods, analyses and applications”. During his time at Goethe University Frankfurt, David Sabel worked as a research assistant and private lecturer at the Institute of Computer Science and led the research project “Observational Correctness of Programming Language Translations”. From 2018 to 2022, he held a deputy professorship for Theoretical Computer Science at the Institute of Computer Science at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Professory Sabel then worked as a software developer and IT consultant at Yatta Solutions GmbH until 2024.

What aspect of your research fascinates you the most?

I am fascinated by how programming questions can be resolved once and for all through a structured approach and formal proofs, and next thing you know, new questions arise that require the constant development of established techniques and methods. I am excited to see to what extent artificial intelligence will improve and accelerate these processes in the future.

What does “good teaching” mean to you?

In my opinion, the key to good teaching is well-structured and detailed course material that sets out the content for everyone involved and thus serves as a common basis for lecturers and learners. I find it important that both students and lecturers are well motivated, so that the course can be completed successfully.

What did you want to be growing up?

Even as a child, I knew that I wanted to have a career tech and work with computers. At the time, I didn’t know what these jobs would look like in real life.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

To relax, I like going for a run, preferably at dawn, and listen to podcasts. Two things that can be easily combined.
