SUSTAINABLE FUTUROLOGY IN THE TRANSFORMERS NETWORK
Sustainable futurology in the TransformERS network
Dr. Merve Demiröz Torun, UNESCO Chair Coordinator, has joined the COST Action CA22156 - Transformations International Experience and Research Network for Sustainable Futures (TransformERS). TransformERS aims to foster impactful research, policy, and practice for societal transformations that promote equity in a dynamic global context. The network brings together experts to focus on historical, social, and environmental shifts relevant to achieving sustainable futures.
As an active member of Working Group 2, which focuses on historical transformations, Dr. Demiröz Torun contributes to discussions around pivotal changes spanning from the 1870s to the post-World War II era. Among the topics the group will explore are transformations in energy, urban planning, mobility, food and water management.
On 24-25 September, Dr. Demiröz Torun participated in a working group meeting in Vienna, supported by a mobility grant. Led by Dr. Edeltraud Haselsteiner and Gilda Hoxha, the meeting advanced collaborative efforts to produce a systematic literature review on these historical shifts. The group’s interdisciplinary approach highlights how past transformations can inform sustainable and equitable futures.
