UNESCO Chair at ANIH Forum
Taiwan, 18.04.2024 - In the 2024 ICOMOS International Day for Monuments and Sites focused on 'Disasters and Conflicts through the Lens of the Venice Charter', Prof. Michael Kloos, the Chair Holder, presented at the international forum event of the Asian Network of Industrial Heritage held in Taiwan on April 18th.
This year, the overarching theme of the International Forum on Cultural Heritage became Sustainability and Resilience. Prof. Kloos was one of the key note speakers in Session 3, titled 'Critical Review and Impact Assessment'. His speech at the forum provided a thorough review of the current pressures on heritage sites, their management, and the utilization of heritage impact assessments, drawing from his experiences with the transformation of the UNESCO World Heritage Property: Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. Prof Kloos’ intervention stimulated engaging discussions among the Forum participants, enhancing the dialogue on conserving cultural heritage in sustainable and resilient manners.
